WORK EXPERIENCE

SEE IF ACCOUTANCY IS FOR YOU

We offer work experience placements to those studying for A-Levels and beyond at both our Newcastle and Chester le Street offices.

Placements are usually one week and students will spend time in each of our various  departments.

To ensure we are giving students the best opportunities for learning, we limit the number of placements to one placement per month between April – November (excluding August).

Some of our previous work experience students have gone on to join our apprenticeship programme.

Payroll Assistant

We are looking for a payroll assistant to process an accurate portfolio of client payrolls from end to end ensuring that strict deadlines are met.

The vacancy overview:

We are looking to recruit someone who is experienced in payroll processing and auto enrolment, ideally within client/bureau payroll. Experience of IRIS Payroll Professional (formally Star Payroll) would be a distinct advantage but not essential. Knowledge of the various pension schemes and how to produce and upload data and arrange payment thereof. Team work, flexibility, excellent communication and IT skills, along with a strong client service ethos, will be needed in this busy role. You will also be expected to be extremely accurate, meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.

Job Overview:

You will be expected to process the payrolls of a portfolio of clients from ‘start to finish’. This will include:

  • Registering PAYE schemes with HMRC.
  • Set up and maintenance of client records and control sheets
  • Set up and maintenance of client payroll records within payroll software
  • Review, input and processing of client payroll data, including starters, leavers and calculating adjustments to pay
  • Input and processing of 3rd party forms, including Attachment of Earnings Orders
  • Statutory payment calculation and process management
  • Accurate client report checking and issue
  • P45 management and issue
  • Provision and/or upload of client bank payment files
  • Inform clients of their PAYE liability each month/quarter, processing the payment of client PAYE liability to HMRC where agreed
  • Provision of payroll journals to clients
  • End to end auto enrolment management for clients
  • Provision of query solution and management
  • Ensuring clients are kept up to date on payroll legislation
  • Invoice management of own portfolio
  • General department payroll file administration and archiving
  • Maintain required up to date professional competence and awareness of regulatory and legislative changes meeting CPD requirements
  • To support the total workload of the payroll department
  • Ensure all procedures and best practice as laid out by the firm/department are adhered to

The job specific requirements we would expect you to demonstrate are:

Essential:

  • 3+ years payroll experience preferably within Practice/Bureau environment
  • Relevant experience of working in a busy ‘start to finish’ payroll department and possess excellent mathematical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and be capable of working with minimal supervision to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication (verbal / written) skills and be competent with Microsoft Excel

Desirable:

  • Possess sound decision-making skills
  • Experience of IRIS Payroll Professional (formally Star Payroll)

Business Support Assistant – 2 vacancies

We are looking for two Business Support Assistants to join our team. You will support the administration and operational requirements of the business.

Corporation Tax Assistant

We are looking for a motivated Tax Assistant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in tax, in particular corporation tax, which will form a significant part of this role, and eager to develop their skills in a supportive environment.

Trainees Welcome! You don’t need to have prior tax experience – we are happy to provide full training to the right candidate.

Tax Assistant

We are looking for confident individual to join our Tax Compliance team. You’ll work closely with clients to ensure accurate and timely submission of personal and partnership tax returns. You’ll also play a key role in preparing for the upcoming Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self-Assessment (ITSA) changes, helping clients transition smoothly to digital record-keeping and quarterly reporting.

Audit and Assurance Semi Senior

Tax Consultant

As a result of increasing business, we are looking for a new tax consultant to work as part of the Tax Advisory team dealing with bespoke tax advisory projects over a wide range of personal and business tax areas, serving the needs of our clients and our non-tax staff.

You will work on delivering on a project either as part of a team or working individually

The job specific requirements we would expect you to demonstrate are:

  • CTA qualified or qualified by experience (with 3+ years’ experience of providing tax advice to clients)
  • PQE desirable but not a deal breaker
  • Corporate Tax experience is preferred
  • Adapts style to needs of situation
  • Analytical but able to see the “bigger picture”
  • Strong business acumen and commercial awareness
  • Understand impact on others
  • Ability to meet targets & deadlines
  • Ability to prioritise workload and exceed expectations of clients

Client Relationships

  • Work positively with clients to help the company gain a high client satisfaction score (Net Promoter Score)

  • Mitigate risk when giving specialist tax advice so the company or client doesn’t face any unexpected or adverse impacts as a result of the advice

  • Be knowledgeable about the different services of the Robson Laidler Group and when clients may need these services so that cross-selling or upselling opportunities are identified

People Development

  • To act as a role model demonstrating high standards of work performance, achievement and conduct
  • Work to achieve productivity targets and exceed specific role requirements and KPIs
  • Keep yourself up-to-date with: technical updates, especially changes in tax regulations
