With March being B Corp Month, it feels like the perfect time to share some great news  – Robson Laidler Accountants has recently recertified as a B Corp!

B Corps go through a recertification process every three years, helping us measure, improve and stay accountable for our social and environmental impact.

We’re proud to share that we’ve been recertified as a B Corp, with our score improving from 85.3 in 2021 to 95.6, reflecting the progress we’ve made and our continued commitment to meeting high standards of social and environmental impact.

  • Some of the key areas where we’ve made significant progress include:
  • A 33% reduction in Scope 1 emissions and a 100% reduction in Scope 2 emissions, helping us align with our Science Based Targets and the UNFCCC ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050
  • Our heating and lighting costs reduced by 17% – this is due to a new thermostat system and increased education around turning off switches and lights at the end of the day.
  • The launch of the Robson Laidler Community Fund, managed by Point North, through which we donate 5% of our annual profits to a grant scheme supporting charitable causes across the North East
  • Improvements to our waste management and recycling processes
A staff engagement score of 80+ and retention rate of 89%, supported by the trial of a four-day working week, which helped us feature in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work Awards for the past two years
  • The launch of sustainable business travel and commuting policies
  • Introducing a sustainable supplier and responsible purchasing policies, encouraging the use of local and socially verified supply chains

Certified B Corporations™, or B Corps™, are companies verified as meeting standards for social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

We often get asked: What does the “B” stand for?

B stands for “benefit”—for people and the planet, not just shareholders.

We’re incredibly proud to be one of 33 B Corps in the North East and one of 2,800+ across the UK, all part of a global movement working to benefit people and the planet.

As we move forward, we’ll also be working in line with the new B Lab Standards, taking meaningful action across seven key social, environmental and governance impact areas:

  • Climate Action –Working to be part of the solution by taking actionable steps towards limiting global warming to 1.5℃ by 2050.
  • Human Rights – We treat people with dignity and respect human rights, taking due diligence seriously on how our business and operations impact people.
  • Purpose & Stakeholder Governance – We live by a clear and meaningful purpose that promotes a positive social and environmental impact and considers the interests of all stakeholders—not just shareholders.
  • Fair Work – B Corps create workplaces where all employees can thrive, through quality jobs and positive workplace culture.
  • Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion – Committed to an inclusive workplace and embedding equity and justice into how we operate.
  • Environmental Stewardship & Circularity – B Corps are committed to understanding our environmental impact, including taking action to address negative impacts in order to contribute to an economy that preserves our natural resources.
  • Government Affairs & Collective Action – We collaborate with others in our community to make a positive impact and drive systemic change—beyond what we could achieve alone.

We’re proud to be part of a community of businesses committed to doing better and to continuing our journey to make a positive impact.

As a Certified B Corporation, everyone who works with us from our employees, partners and community plays an important role in driving positive impact. This #BCorpMonth, we’re celebrating our people, the ones who inspire us to keep acting, keep pushing and keep moving forward and recognising that we’re all part of the one million workers around the world united by the B.

Thank you to our B Corp committee and every member of our team who helped us with this recertification process and makes the daily choices that turn values into action.
